A meeting was convened in the Temple Trees by the Prime Minister with the participation of plantation progressive front members led by Mano Kanesan yesterday.
The treasury advisor Paskaralingam was also participated in this discussion. Plantation Progressive Font Trade Unions agreed for the interim allowance of Rs2,500 per month, until new joint agreement is signed. This interim allowance will be paid as from 1st April 2016.
Accordingly, the estate workers current wages of Rs620 per day will be added with Rs 100 and make the total payment per day Rs 720.
To facilitate this payment, loans will be given to plantation management organizations from Government banks. This responsibility is assigned to Paskaralingam. As early as possible discussion discussion will commence to arrive at a joint agreement and pay arrears as from 31st March 2016 . Discussion on joint agreement will be done in presence of the Prime Minister.
