In Vadamaraachchi , Point Pedro in Jaffna District, two police officers on duty have signalled the lorry allegedly transporting sand illegally. But the lorry ignored police warning. Hence, they said to have opened fire on the lorry which resulted in the death of a 24-year-old youth and another person injured was hospitalized.
Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the officers who opened fire were arrested last night.
Meanwhile following a directive from the IGP, a squad headed by an ASP has been assigned to carry out an investigation.
