Prime Minister Prioritizes Higher Education Than Construction of University Buildings.

A discussion was held at the Temple Trees yesterday. Minister of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella, Vice Chancellors of Universities and officials of the Treasury were present at the discussion. Issues in the higher education sector and future plans were discussed at this meeting.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has advised Vice Chancellors of Universities to take steps to improve the quality of higher education rather over prioritizing the construction of university buildings. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe further stated immediate action should be taken to end ragging in universities. The Prime Minister also said a positive educational environment should be created for students by ensuring a ban on ragging and employing new staff members. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe further added the development of post degree development and establishing relations with foreign universities should also be introduced.
