To Consider any Protest By JO on Hambantota Incident, PM Wants Rajapaksa’s Signature?
A protest organized by the Joint Opposition was dispersed by police on Saturday when a Vocational Training Institute was opened to train workers to be assigned to work on a new industrial zone in Hambantota. Over 50 people were arrested in connection with the clashes.
MP Dinesh Gunawardena raised the Hambantota issue under Standing Orders 23 (2) in Parliament today.
In response Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe said, that any protest by the Joint Opposition over the incident at Hambantota will be considered in Parliament, if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa places his signature on such a protest note.
